THESE ARE THE OFFICIAL RULES (“OFFICIAL RULES”) FOR THE GOOGLE REGISTRY WEBSITE 2019 COMPETITION. THE GOOGLE REGISTRY WEBSITE 2019 COMPETITION IS RUN BY CHARLESTON ROAD REGISTRY INC. d/b/a GOOGLE REGISTRY (“GOOGLE REGISTRY”), 1600 AMPHITHEATRE PARKWAY, MOUNTAIN VIEW, CA 94043 AND ITS PARENT GOOGLE LLC (“GOOGLE”), 1600 AMPHITHEATRE PARKWAY, MOUNTAIN VIEW, CA 94043 (COLLECTIVELY, “SPONSORS”). PLEASE NOTE THAT THIS IS NOT A PRIZE DRAW BUT A SKILL-BASED WEBSITE BUILDING COMPETITION. THE ELEMENT OF CHANCE WILL PLAY NO PART IN THE DETERMINATION OF PRIZE WINNERS. PLEASE ALSO NOTE THAT THESE OFFICIAL RULES DO NOT CONSTITUTE A TENDER AND TENDER LAW REGULATIONS AND PRINCIPLES DO NOT APPLY.
GOOGLE REGISTRY WEBSITE COMPETITION 2019 IS A SKILL CONTEST WHERE ELIGIBLE CREATORS (“ENTRANTS”) 18 YEARS OF AGE OR OLDER WHO HAVE REACHED THE LEGAL AGE OF MAJORITY IN THEIR JURISDICTION OF RESIDENCE WILL BE INVITED TO SUBMIT THEIR PROJECTS AT A GOOGLE DESIGNATED WEBSITE, CURRENTLY AVAILABLE AT HTTPS://SAFE.PAGE (“COMPETITION SITE”), TO COMPETE FOR THE OPPORTUNITY TO BE FEATURED ON GOOGLE REGISTRY’S MARKETING WEBSITES AND WIN A PIXEL 3 MOBILE PHONE. THE ENTRANT’S SUBMISSION, ALONG WITH ALL MATERIALS PROVIDED BY THE ENTRANT IN CONNECTION WITH THE COMPETITION, WILL BE COLLECTIVELY REFERRED TO HEREIN AS AN “ENTRY.” THE COMPETITION WILL BE COMPRISED OF AN OPEN ENTRY SUBMISSION PHASE, JUDGING PHASE, AND SELECTION OF WINNERS PHASE. VOID WHERE PROHIBITED OR RESTRICTED BY LAW.
1. Competition Dates and Times
The Google Registry Website 2019 Competition described in these Official Rules (the “Competition”) begins with a single open call for the submission of Entries which starts on or about February 5, 2019 at 12:00:01 AM Pacific Time (“PT”) and ends on or about April 30, 2019 at 11:59:59 PM PT (“Open Call for Entry”). This will be followed by one judging round and the announcement of winners (collectively with the Open Call for Entry, the “Competition Period”). The Google computer runs the official clock for the Competition and will solely determine the time by which an Entry is received. The Competition Period stages will start and end on or about the dates and times noted below:

2. Competition Entities
CHARLESTON ROAD REGISTRY INC. d/b/a GOOGLE REGISTRY, 1600 Amphitheatre Parkway, Mountain View, CA 94043, GOOGLE LLC, 1600 Amphitheatre Parkway, Mountain View, CA 94043, and Automattic Inc, 60 29th Street #343, San Francisco, CA 94110 (collectively, the “Competition Entities”).
Competition is open to individuals 18 years of age or older as of April 30, 2019 who have reached the legal age of majority in their jurisdiction of residence, subject to the country specific requirements below. No individual can register for or enter the Competition until they turn 18 and have reached the legal age of majority in their jurisdiction of residence. Sponsors reserve the right to verify an individual’s eligibility to participate in the Competition.
The Competition is not open to residents of the States of Colorado, Connecticut, and Vermont and the Competition will be void in those states. The Competition is not open to residents of Cuba, Iran, North Korea, Sudan, Syria, the Crimea Region, and any other U.S. sanctioned country nor to any person under U.S. export controls or sanctions and is void where prohibited by law. The Competition is not open to residents of Quebec, Brazil, France, Germany, Italy, Mexico, Russia, Ukraine, Kazakhstan and Belarus and is void in those countries. Employees, officers, directors, agents, and representatives of the Competition Entities and their immediate family members (which means parents, spouses, children, siblings, in-laws, grandparents and grandchildren and their respective spouses, regardless of where they reside) and residents in the same household (whether legally related or not) of such employees, officers, directors, agents, and representatives are not eligible to enter or otherwise participate in this Competition.
4. How to Enter the Competition
- To enter: Submit your Entry through the web form on https://safe.page during the Open Call for Entry. You may enter as many times as you would like, but must enter a unique website for each entry.
- Entries not submitted in accordance with the instructions provided on the Competition Site and these Official Rules may be disqualified at the sole discretion of the Sponsors.
- Complete requested information about yourself and your Entry in the Submission section of https://safe.page. You may not edit this later, so if you make a mistake, you may create a new submission. Click the box stating that you have read, accept, and agree to be bound by these Official Rules and terms and the box stating that you have read, accept, and agree to the Google Registry Website 2019 Competition release.
- The Entry must follow the legal entry requirements set out in these Official Rules and the Competition Site (which are incorporated herein by reference).
5. COMPLETE AND SUBMIT YOUR ENTRY
- You may submit Your Entry any time during the Open Call for Entry. ENTRIES WILL NOT BE AUTOMATICALLY ENTERED – YOU MUST HIT SUBMIT FOR YOUR ENTRY TO BE CONSIDERED ENTERED INTO THE COMPETITION. Even after you submit, you can make further changes to your website up until the close of the Open Call for Entry on April 30, 2019.
Entrants must complete all sections of the template on the Competition Site:
- Section 1: First name
- Section 2: Last name
- Section 3: Birth date
- Section 4: Email address
- Section 5: Website link
- Section 6: Brief description of your website. If submitting a website that’s not in English, be sure to include a link to your translation/script for English speaking judges to be eligible for the Competition.
- Section 7: Country of residence.
Language: Websites may be created in any language, provided you also provide an English translation/script for English speaking judges.
6. ENTRY TERMS
By entering, regardless of country of entry, you represent and warrant that your Entry, and your participation in the Competition or any Competition related event, will not defame, misrepresent, or contain disparaging remarks or any other content which could adversely affect the name, reputation or goodwill of the Released Parties or any other individuals and/or entities; will not contain pornographic or sexual content, hateful content of any kind (including racism, sexism, etc.); will not contain content which promotes violence or harm to another living creature or any other offensive, obscene or inappropriate content; will not include threats of any kind or statements that intimidate, harass, or bully anyone; will not violate any local, state, national or international law; and will not post any content that would encourage or provide instructions for a criminal offense. Competition Administrator reserves the right to disqualify any Entrant, whom it determines in its sole discretion, has violated the spirit of the Competition or breached a representation (scientific or otherwise) or warranty or term of these Official Rules at any time during the Competition. Sponsors reserve the right to review all Entries received during the Open Call for Entry and will only post entries considered winners on the Competition Site that conform to these Official Rules, as determined by Sponsors in their sole discretion (“Eligible Entries”). Entries that do not comply with these Official Rules as determined by Sponsors, in their sole discretion, will be disqualified from the Competition and will not appear on the Competition Site. You agree that Released Parties (as defined below) are not responsible for any unauthorized use of Entries by third parties. Sponsors do not guarantee the posting of any Entry.
7. TECHNICAL LIMITATION OF LIABILITY
To the extent permitted by applicable law, neither the Competition Entities nor any of their subsidiaries, affiliates, advertising and promotion agencies, legal and financial advisors, any and all companies associated with this Competition or any other entities that may be added to the Competition Site as participating in this Competition after these Official Rules are published, and each of their respective officers, directors, shareholders, agents, licensees, licensors and employees, nor any Internet access providers (collectively “Released Parties”) (except where due to the negligence of a Released Party) are responsible for incorrect or inaccurate entry of information, human error, technical malfunction, lost/delayed data transmission, omission, interruption, deletion, defect, line failure of any telephone, computer or other network, computer equipment, software or any combination thereof, inability to access the Competition Site or any Google site, service, or property, for problems uploading any Entries or downloading any Competition-related materials from the Competition Site or any Google site, service, or property, or for late, lost, stolen, damaged, misdirected, incorrect, garbled, delayed, undelivered or incomplete entries or other materials. For purposes of these Official Rules, receipt of Entry occurs when the Google servers successfully receive the uploaded Entry on the Competition Site and record the required Entry information. Any Entry/Entrant information collected during the Competition will be used only in a manner consistent with the consent given by Entrants, at the time of entry, with these Official Rules (specifically including Google’s Privacy Policies referred to above).
8. JUDGING AND SCORING TO DETERMINE WINNERS
A panel composed of employees of Sponsors (“Judges”) is in charge of enforcing the Entry requirements. The Judges will evaluate the entries based on the following judging criteria; user experience (up to 10 points), functioning user interface (up to 10 points), originality (up to 10 points), design (up to 10 points), and content clarity (up to 10 points). The Judges may decide, at their sole discretion, to disqualify participants who do not follow the Terms. The Entry requirements and the criteria below shall, collectively, be considered the “Criteria” for purposes of these Official Rules. The Judges will determine the manner and process by which Eligible Entries are assessed in their sole discretion.
The maximum score assigned by a Judge for each entered website is:
1) User Experience. Website should be responsive, for easy viewing on devices with different screen sizes (both desktop and mobile). The website should work in the latest two versions of all major browsers (Chrome, Safari, Firefox, and Internet Explorer). (maximum score 10)
2). Functioning User Interface. All links/buttons should work. Navigating the website should feel intuitive rather than confusing. There should be no errors when navigating the website. (maximum score 10)
3) Originality. Content must be original. An excellent website will be unique and unlike other websites. (maximum score 10)
4) Design. An excellent website will have an impactful design that effectively contributes to the purpose of the website rather than distracting from it and that is cohesive throughout the site. (maximum score 10)
5) Content clarity. An excellent website will be well-organized, free of spelling and grammar errors, and will allow a user to understand quickly the purpose of the website. (maximum score 10)
50 is a perfect score.
C. Determining the Winners:
Nine (9) winners (“Winners”) will be selected. There will be 3 Winners for websites created with a .page top-level domain, 3 Winners for websites created for a .app top-level domain, and 3 Winners for websites created with a .dev top-level domain. The highest scoring Entries will be named the winners. In the event of a tie, each member of the judging panel will rank the tying entries and the most highly rated entry based on the aggregate of the judges' rankings will be declared the winner.
D. Terms for Judging:
If a Winner is found not to be eligible or not in compliance with these Official Rules, the Entrant will be disqualified and the Judges may select an alternate Entrant, in its sole discretion, even if the disqualified name or Entry may have been shown or announced publicly (whether on the Competition Site or in any other medium).
The Judge’s decisions are final and binding in all matters relating to the Competition (without prejudice of any claim that could be filed before a court).
Note: You acknowledge and agree that Sponsors reserve the right to disqualify any Entrant at any time, in their sole discretion, on the basis of anything contained in or learned or obtained as a result of any submitted Releases, or any other forms requested by Sponsors that, in their sole discretion, would constitute a breach of these Official Rules or any other Competition forms or documentation.
9. PRIZE DETAILS
A. Prizes (9):
The Winners will each be awarded Pixel 3 phones and have their websites featured on safe.page and one of get.page, get.app, or get.dev. The Approximate Retail Value (“ARV”) of each prize is: $649 USD. If, in the Sponsors’ judgment, a Pixel 3 phone cannot be shipped to a Winner’s residence, a gift card will be awarded to Winner in an amount comparable to the ARV. Gift cards are subject to terms and conditions established by the issuer and communicated at time of prize award, and are not redeemable for cash.
B. General Prize Conditions (For All Prizes): The prizes are not transferable, assignable or redeemable for cash except at Sponsors’ sole discretion in which case a prize of comparable or greater value will be awarded. No substitutions by winner. Cash will be not be provided in lieu of any prize. Prizes are subject to change without prior notice at any time. Sponsors reserve the right, in their sole discretion, to substitute a prize of equal or greater monetary value. Prizes will be awarded on or about July 2019 subject to Section C below. All details of any prize not specified herein are at Sponsors’ sole discretion and complete terms and conditions of prizes will be disclosed to the winner at time of prize award.
C. TAXES: RECEIPT OF PRIZES TO POTENTIAL WINNERS/WINNERS ARE SUBJECT TO THE EXPRESS REQUIREMENT THAT THEY SUBMIT TO SPONSORS ALL DOCUMENTATION REQUESTED BY SPONSORS TO PERMIT IT TO COMPLY WITH ALL APPLICABLE FEDERAL, STATE, PROVINCIAL, LOCAL AND FOREIGN TAX REPORTING AND WITHHOLDING REQUIREMENTS. THIS MAY REQUIRE THE SUBMISSION OF WINNER SOCIAL SECURITY NUMBERS FOR TAX REPORTING PURPOSES. ALL PRIZES WILL BE NET OF ANY TAXES SPONSORS ARE REQUIRED BY LAW TO WITHHOLD. ALL TAXES IMPOSED ON PRIZES ARE THE SOLE RESPONSIBILITY OF THE WINNERS, REGARDLESS OF WHETHER TAXES HAVE BEEN SO WITHHELD. In order to receive a prize, potential winners may be required to submit the tax documentation requested by Sponsors or otherwise required by applicable law, to Sponsors or the relevant tax authority, all as determined by applicable law, including, where relevant, the law of the potential winner’s country of residence. The potential winners are responsible for ensuring that (s)he complies with all the applicable tax laws and filing requirements. If a potential winner fails to provide such documentation or comply with such laws, the prize may be forfeited and Sponsors may, in its sole discretion, notify a runner-up potential winner.
Each Winner who is a legal resident of the United States (if any) will be issued a 1099 for the actual value of his/her prize.
10. OWNERSHIP OF THE ENTRY/GRANT OF RIGHTS
You will retain ownership of your Entry. However, by entering the Competition, and to the extent allowed by law, you grant Sponsors and their affiliates, licensees, promotional partners, developers, legal representatives, assigns, agents and licensees (collectively, the “Licensed Parties”) from the moment of submission of your Entry through July 1, 2021, a worldwide, royalty-free, non-exclusive, sub licensable, unconditional and transferable license to use, reproduce, adapt, modify, publish, distribute, transmit, publicly perform, broadcast, create a derivative work from, and publicly display (without limitation as to when or to the number of times used), your Entry, name, age, and statements without further review, notice, approval, consideration, or compensation to Entrant or any third party in connection with (i) Sponsors’ and the Judges’ evaluation of the Entry for purposes of the Competition and (ii) advertising and promotion via communication to the public or other groups, including, but not limited to, the right to make screenshots, animations and photo clips available for promotional purposes. For Israeli residents, and to the extent permitted by applicable law, you further agree to waive any moral rights associated with your Entry.
11. LIMITATIONS OF LIABILITY
Except where prohibited by law and to the extent that the negative consequences described below are the foreseeable result of matters within the Released Parties’ reasonable control and are the direct consequence of negligence or default by any of them, the Released Parties are not responsible for any incorrect or inaccurate entry of information, human error, technical malfunction, lost/delayed data transmission, omission, interruption, deletion, defect, line failure of any telephone, computer or other network, computer equipment, software or any combination thereof, inability to access the Google Site, for the inability to upload or download any Competition-related materials from the Google Site, or for late, lost, damaged, misdirected, delayed, garbled, incorrect, inaccurate, stolen, damaged, or incomplete Entries.
BY ENTERING THE COMPETITION, YOU: (I) ACCEPT THE CONDITIONS STATED IN THESE OFFICIAL COMPETITION RULES AND AGREE TO BE BOUND BY THE DECISIONS OF THE SPONSORS, WITHOUT PREJUDICE OF ANY CLAIM THAT COULD BE FILED BEFORE THE COURTS; (II) WARRANT THAT YOU ARE ELIGIBLE TO PARTICIPATE IN THIS COMPETITION; AND (III) AGREE THAT, TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY APPLICABLE LAW, THE RELEASED PARTIES ARE NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR ANY CLAIMS, LOSSES, LIABILITY, AND DAMAGES OF ANY KIND (INCLUDING REASONABLE ATTORNEYS’ FEES AND EXPENSES), ASSERTED AGAINST ANY OF THEM, INCURRED, SUSTAINED, OR ARISING IN CONNECTION WITH THE USE, ACCEPTANCE, OR MISUSE OF ANY ENTRY MATERIAL, OR WHILE PREPARING FOR, OR PARTICIPATING IN ANY COMPETITION-RELATED ACTIVITY, INCLUDING, WITHOUT LIMITATION, ANY INJURY, DAMAGE, DEATH, LOSS, OR ACCIDENT TO PERSON OR PROPERTY (EXCEPT TO THE EXTENT ANY PERSONAL INJURY OR DEATH IS CAUSED BY THE RELEASED PARTIES' NEGLIGENCE), OR FROM THE RESPECTIVE ENTRANT'S BREACH OF ANY AGREEMENT OR WARRANTY ASSOCIATED WITH THE COMPETITION, INCLUDING THESE OFFICIAL COMPETITION RULES. ANY ATTEMPT TO DELIBERATELY DAMAGE ANY WEBSITE OR UNDERMINE THE LEGITIMATE OPERATION OF THE COMPETITION IS A VIOLATION OF THE LAW AND, SHOULD SUCH AN ATTEMPT BE MADE, SPONSORS AND EACH OF THEIR LICENSEES RESERVE THE RIGHT TO SEEK DAMAGES OR OTHER REMEDIES (INCLUDING ATTORNEYS’ FEES) FROM ANY SUCH PERSON(S) RESPONSIBLE FOR ANY SUCH ATTEMPT TO THE FULLEST EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW. NOTWITHSTANDING THE REVIEW OF ANY ENTRY BY SPONSORS, YOU UNDERSTAND AND AGREE TO BEAR SOLE LIABILITY FOR THE CONTENTS OF YOUR ENTRY AND AGREE TO REIMBURSE THE RELEASED PARTIES FOR ANY DAMAGES AND/OR COSTS INCURRED AS A RESULT OF A THIRD PARTY’S CLAIM OR DEMAND RELATING TO THE CONTENT OF YOUR ENTRY.
12. GENERAL CONDITIONS
Sponsors’ and Judges’ decisions are final and binding in all matters relating to this Competition, including interpretation and application of these Official Rules (without prejudice of any claim that could be filed before the Court). Potential Winners may be contacted by Sponsors via email. In the event of a dispute as to the identity of an Entrant based on an email address, the Entry in question may be disqualified subject to Sponsors’ sole discretion. Sponsors reserve the right, in their sole discretion, to disqualify any individual found tampering with the entry process or entry materials or otherwise interfering with the proper administration of the Competition or violating these Official Rules and void all associated Entries and/or votes. Sponsors may cancel, modify, or suspend the Competition (or portion thereof) due to a force majeure event or any other event beyond Sponsors’ reasonable control, as determined in Sponsors’ discretion. You hereby acknowledge and agree that the relationship between you and the Competition Entities is not a confidential, fiduciary, exclusive or other special relationship, and your decision to submit an Entry in connection with this Competition does not place the Competition Entities in a position that is any different from the position held by members of the general public with regard to elements of the Entry, other than as set forth in these Official Rules.
13. SIMILAR IDEAS
You understand and acknowledge that: (i) Sponsors have wide access to ideas, stories, designs, film, tape, video, and other materials, and those new ideas are constantly being submitted to it or being developed by their own employees; (ii) many ideas or stories may be competitive with, similar to, or identical to content in your Entry and/or each other in theme, idea, plot, format, or other respects; (iii) You will not be entitled to any compensation as a result of Sponsors' use of any such similar or identical material that has or may come to Sponsors, or any of them, from other sources. Except where prohibited by law you acknowledge and agree that the Released Entities do not now and shall not have in the future any duty or liability, direct or indirect, vicarious, contributory, or otherwise, with respect to the infringement or protection of your copyright in and to the Entries. Finally, you acknowledge that, with respect to any claim of yours relating to or arising out of any Sponsors' actual or alleged exploitation or use of any Entry or other material submitted in connection with the Competition, the damage, if any, thereby caused to you will not be irreparable or otherwise sufficient to entitle you to seek any injunctive or other equitable relief or in any way enjoin, otherwise interfere with, delay, or interrupt the production, distribution, exhibition, or other exploitation of any production based on, or allegedly based on, your Entry, and your rights and remedies in any such event shall be strictly limited to the right to recover damages, if any, in an action at law.
14. PERSONAL DATA
The following personal information will be collected by Sponsors in this Competition: first name, last name, birth date, email address and country of residence. This information will be used solely for the purposes of administering the Competition and verifying an Entrant’s identity. It is your obligation to provide the Sponsors with accurate and up to date information. Your Entry may not be considered if inaccurate or incomplete information is provided. Entrant information will be deleted by Sponsors within 6 months following the conclusion of the Competition. Sponsors are U.S. based companies with a global presence. Entrant personal information may also be transferred to the U.S. or another country, which may not have privacy laws and regulations that provide the same level of protection to those that exist in your jurisdiction of residence. Sponsors comply with certain legal frameworks relating to the transfer of data, such as the EU-US and Swiss-US Privacy Shield Frameworks. Entrants’ personal data will be treated in accordance with Sponsor’s privacy practices found at http://www.google.com/intl/en/privacy.html. In the event an Entrant wishes to withdraw from the Competition or opt-out from the sharing of their personal information , Entrant may inform Sponsors at any time by contacting Sponsors at email@example.com or writing to Google LLC, Attn: Google Registry Website Competition 2019, 1600 Amphitheatre Parkway, Mountain View, CA 94043. The data controller and data recipient is Google LLC, 1600 Amphitheatre Parkway, Mountain View, CA 94043.
15. CHOICE OF LAW
Unless the laws relevant for the domicile of the Registered User provide otherwise, this Competition is governed exclusively by United States law and is subject to all applicable federal, state, and local laws. Except where prohibited by law, any and all legal actions or claims arising in connection with this Competition must be brought exclusively in a court of competent jurisdiction in the County of Santa Clara, in the State of California.
16. COUNTRY SPECIFIC NOTICES
If any provision of these rules is invalid under the applicable law, rules or regulations of a particular country, it will only apply to the extent permitted. In addition to the tax liability disclosures in these rules, Competition Winners are subject to abide by the income reporting and, if applicable, the payment of any taxes due per the laws, rules and regulations of the winners’ country of residence. By entering the Contest, Entrants hereby expressly agree and accept that for all that is related to the interpretation, performance and enforcement of these Official Rules, each of them expressly submit themselves to the laws of the United States of America and to the jurisdiction of the competent courts in the County of Santa Clara, in the State of California, United States of America, expressly waiving to any other jurisdiction that could correspond to them by virtue of their present or future domicile or by virtue of any other cause.
17. COMPETITION WINNERS LIST
On or about June or July 2019 the names of the Winners will be posted on the Competition Site.
